A community loving to make Jesus known

LIGHT Ministry for Young People

All our work with young people, from 0-18 years of age, comes under the heading of LIGHT MINISTRIES

Young people

Babies and toddlers - creche

For parents of babies and toddlers there is a self-contained and secure crèche area (unsupervised) with chairs, play mats, toys and story books.  There is a wireless speaker system which relays the Service so parents don’t need to miss out. The disabled bathroom has changing facilities for babies’ nappies.

Older children's classes

There are classes on Sundays for Nursery and Reception children (STARLIGHTS),  Primary years 1-3 (SPARKLERS), Primary 4-6 (BLAZE) and Secondary School aged children (IGNITE). Classes are led by people who have a genuine love and concern for the young people in their care, and a desire to see them grow in faith and to be like Jesus. Classes use the excellent Scripture Union teaching materials, supplemented by other resources. There may be story-telling, Bible readings, games, craft, videos, and sometimes outings. The school facilities are excellent and we are able to use the Community Room and the Sports’ Hall.

We take the wellbeing of everyone at RBC seriously. Our safeguarding document, Keeping Safe, follows guidelines of the Baptist Union and all those working on LIGHT teams are familiar with our policy and procedures.   There are two safeguarding Trustees who have responsibility for overseeing this area.

There are two teaching teams for each class, working on a rotation of four weeks on then six weeks off. This benefits the children who have variety of approach, and the staff who are able to spend time in the Services.  At the end of each teaching block there is an interactive Family Service (RBC Messy) when everyone stays together for the morning.

IGNITE in the week

This older group meets on alternate Friday evenings for social and spiritual purposes – and much fun! These young people are active in ministry areas within church on Sunday mornings and it is important that there is something especially for them at a different time.
